Armstrongs, Marmite, Clangers and Clans…

Greetings, Blog-followers…

Well, dear readers, it’s been a difficult week for the American branch of the Armstrong clan

Lance of that ilk has been in the news: always a controversial character, rather like Marmite he tends to divide opinion – but you can always read his side of the story here

Meanwhile, another real-life American hero, Neil Armstrong, has ‘slipped the bonds of earth’ again…a quiet, unassuming, immensely brave but modest man, it’s odd to think that children today probably don’t know much about him, or the incredible characters involved in the space race – Buzz Aldrin has written a remarkable memoir, while the real-life story of Yuri Gagarin really is stranger than fiction…

Do you remember the first moon landing, dear readers?...

I can, although only hazily… and I suspect that it may have been tinged with slight disappointment that they failed to encounter The Clangers on arrival…

But now, thanks to this lovely book, I can recreate the moment for myself, should the need ever arise…

Right-ho, must dash! – But let’s leave the last word to Neil Armstrong’s family, and their tribute to the great man; as they suggest, next time we see it, let’s all wink at the moon in his memory...
